How do I know if my baby has reflux?

This is something that I get asked often. If you think that your baby is more unsettled or uncomfortable than it should be, then trust your gut instinct. There isn’t one single test that can confirm reflux but there are over 80 symptoms and behaviours that I look at with families to help them to get to the root cause of their discomfort.

Often just by talking these through families can start to see that behaviours or symptoms they hadn’t thought of before are linked to reflux.

I have created a checklist that you can download here to help you to start to understand your baby’s symptoms.

Reflux is common but it is not normal. If you have been told by your Doctor or Health Visitor that this is something that you just have to wait for your baby to grow out of – you don’t!

I have been where you are now when you’re exhausted but cannot put your baby down because they are screaming in pain and you don’t know what to do to help them. Desperately trying to find a way to ease their pain, googling at 2am to try and find a solution.

But here is the thing – reflux and colic are a symptom. And what we need to do is to get to the root cause of your baby’s discomfort.

How do we do this?

By reading and understanding what their symptoms are telling us. This is what I am trained to do. As a Certified Baby Reflux Lady I take a holistic approach to baby reflux. My assessment looks at absolutely everything from pregnancy, birth, feeding behaviour and digestive symptoms. I unpick everything that is happening. Then from this we will be able to work out the actual source of their discomfort.

This means that the steps I recommend will be specific for your baby’s needs, to reduce their discomfort.

My focus is to provide practical, actionable advice and to support you in taking those steps. I will be cheering you on from the sidelines every step of the way!
